TMLF is one of the first to agree that, in a perfect and balanced
world, big
cats belong in the wild, free in a peaceful, natural system. However, we must all realize that the world is
not perfect. The natural selection process and the balance of nature has
been impacted beyond repair. But there is hope that the Earth's natural
ecosystems will be protected and restored, and many organizations struggle
with that cause daily.
Our crusade is the back-up and recovery of such ecosystems by involving the tiger's role and our ability to create awareness and inspire and train future leaders. Poaching and habitat destruction have taken their toll on both ecosystems and their inhabitants.
TMLF further believes that the big cats are an inherited responsibility of all of mankind. Today few people or organizations go into the wild and capture wild felines. But these big cats were bred and raised in captivity over generations, many by irresponsible people. Those of us who care for rescued big cats are exercising the stewardship placed upon all.
